Studio addition, Art and Weird Dreams
Nov. 19th, 2019 05:23 pmI don't know if it's the change in seasons with shorter days, all the other changes lately, or both, but I've been having the weirdest dreams. They're not exactly nightmares, but I wouldn't call them good dreams. They're disturbing and seem to always involve people I don't know who are creating chaos in my life. Three nights ago the dream was about one of my sisters driving the two of us to a flea market, running into a group of bizarre people in the flea market cafeteria who ended up kidnapping us and making us their slaves, and we were expected to clean and wait on them. The leader was a really psychotic woman. Their hide-away was the unused, run-down, second story of the flea market, and no one knew they were living up there. It was old and rickety and they hung blankets as room dividers. I had an iPad mini on me and was just waiting for the moment no one was watching so I could text for help. WTF BRAIN?!!
I got up later than I intended to this morning, due to a night of restless sleep from all the freaky dreams, and Molly wanting to knock stuff off my desk at 3 AM, but I still accomplished what I wanted to. Ed was around again today, so I told him I was going to take his suggestion and set up my easel and pastels in a corner of the unfinished addition, which will be my studio once it's complete. There is heat, a slop sink, and bathroom, but what makes it UNfinished is that it's bare sheetrock that still needs sanding and painting, and the flooring and molding is not in. We both got to work cleaning up the area I wanted to set up in, moving some cabinets around and creating a surface to put my pastel boxes on. It's in the corner with natural light coming in from two sides. After setting up I started on the background of a new pastel painting. I've had a picture in my mind of a closeup of a dragonfly that has been asking to be painted. It felt good to get it started.
I also want to do another digital drawing to make transparencies from and I think I know what the subject matter will be...mountains.
