I've updated my LiveJournal account and now I have to figure out how to link it to my other blog and social media. I'm just posting this to test it out and to let those who may be checking me out that I am indeed a real human being. LOL!

I do have a blog on WordPress at elizabethkathleenking.com and if I can figure out how to cross-post I will. It would be nice to post once and have it show up on both sites.

That's amazing! What a small world.

When my family and I first moved to Aiken we were having a house built and in the meantime rented a small house -- a 3-bedroom guesthouse -- on the "Red Top" estate, which is directly across the street from Hopelands Gardens, and around the corner from Easy Street! I love Aiken. I love the "feel" of it and the people and it's history. I'm sure it looks a lot different now from when you were there, as it's been built up quite a bit. The historic horse district remains the same, and the downtown shopping area seems to be thriving, but the further south you go on Whiskey Road the more busy it's getting with businesses, restaurants, retail stores and housing. Richland Ave heading towards Augusta is also booming with new business and stores. My sister lives in a relatively new equestrian community in south Aiken off Banks Mill Road. There are several equestrian communities there now. My little house that my daughter lives in is behind the Aiken Mall.

Listen to this: I drove to Aiken yesterday to meet with the owner of a marketing company for a virtual assistant business (http://www.virtualassistpros.com/) my friend and I are trying to get off the ground. The meeting left us feeling uncertain about what to do next with advertising. I suggested lunch at a cafe on Laurens St. and then we went to the bead shop on Laurens. We started talking to the shop owner, Mary, who I've known for years, and my friend asked her about local advertising and what she recommended (Radio, TV, Newspaper, Mail, etc). The conversation went on for a while and then another customer came in. The customer and Mary started talking first about beaded earrings, and then the conversation switched to their "meeting" in a few minutes. The Mary shouted "OH HEY!" and came to the back bead room to introduce me to the "customer" who was actually there to meet with Mary about her ad in the Aiken Standard! Another woman from the Aiken Standard arrived and we all sat around the table in the back room and talked about advertising options and possibly having our new business in a featured article. As it turned out out we get a free ad for being Chamber of Commerce members. It was so all so synchronistic that it blew me away! Everything happens for a reason.

I love the story - it sounds so Aiken. But the other bit of your response is ... Aiken has a MALL?????

Yeah, it was likely a different place way back when.
